Hey Yachties!
Struggling to create a standout CV that reeeeally showcases your skills and experience?
I've got you covered, don't worry! Here 7 tips to help you create a killer CV!
1. Tailor your CV to the job
When it comes to your CV, one size doesn't fit all. It's essential to tailor your CV to the specific job you're applying for (when possible). As a yacht stew, you may have a wide range of skills and experience, but not all of them may be relevant to every job you apply for. Make sure to highlight the skills and experience that are most relevant to the specific job you're applying for and show how they will benefit the employer.
For example, if you're applying for a job on a private yacht that with an owner who LOVES wine and showcasing their wine collection, highlight your experience in managing high-end wine collections, providing wine service to guests, and organising wine tastings. If you're applying for a charter yacht job that requires strong housekeeping skills, showcase your experience in preparing luxury bedrooms for guests, managing high-end linens, creating different blanket folds etc.
2. Highlight your customer service skills
As a superyacht Stew, you're no stranger to the importance of customer service. In fact, it's the bread and butter of your job. That's why it's crucial to showcase your customer service skills on your CV. Don't just say that you have excellent customer service skills, give specific examples that show how you've dazzled guests with your hospitality and attentiveness.
For example, when have gone above and beyond to make guests feel like royalty? Did you anticipate their needs before they even had to ask? Did you quickly and effectively resolve any issues that came up during their stay? These are the kind of specific examples that will set you apart from other applicants.
And if you really want to knock their socks off, include customer/ guest feedback or testimonials that sing your praises. Nothing speaks louder than happy customers, so use their words to your advantage and let them vouch for your outstanding customer service skills.
3. Use specific language
Avoid using vague language on your CV and instead, use specific language that shows exactly what you've done and achieved. Use action verbs to describe your achievements and use specific metrics to quantify your accomplishments.
For example, instead of saying "provided excellent service to guests," say "provided personalised service to high-net-worth guests."
Or instead of saying "managed housekeeping duties," say "oversaw daily housekeeping operations for a team of 4, ensuring all guest areas were cleaned to the highest standard."
4. Show your attention to detail
Attention to detail is crucial in the superyacht industry, so make sure to showcase your attention to detail on your CV. This could include highlighting specific tasks you've completed that required attention to detail, such as managing high-end wine collections, preparing luxury bedrooms for guests, or ensuring strict compliance with maritime regulations.
For example:
- If you managed the laundry on board, highlight your ability to sort, wash, and fold a wide range of fabrics and textiles, including delicate fabrics such as silk and cashmere.
- If you assisted with meal preparation and service, mention any special dietary requirements or restrictions you were able to accommodate, as well as any specific menu items you were responsible for preparing or serving.
- If you were responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of guest cabins, highlight your ability to create a welcoming and comfortable environment for guests, and mention any special touches or amenities you provided to enhance their stay.
6. Highlight any language skills
As a superyacht stewardess, you may be required to communicate with guests from all over the world. If you have any language skills, highlight them on your CV, as this could give you an edge over other applicants.
7. Use a professional template
Last but not least, use a professional and clean template for your CV. Avoid using flashy templates with a gazillion things going on, as it'll detract from the content of your CV and make it harder to read. A clean and simple design will help you showcase your skills and experience in the best way!
By following these tips, you'll create a standout CV that will hopefully help you land your dream job as a superyacht stewardess. Remember to tailor your CV to the specific job you're applying for, get specific with your language and use examples to show your achievements, highlight your attention to detail and relevant qualifications, showcase your language skills, and use a professional and clean template. Good luck!
